AMBER SALSBUREY   PARALYMPIC DREAM

Fund Raising Information

Every four years Americans witness two events that unite nations while celebrating the hard word and dedication of those living out this Olympic or Paralympic dream. Despite physical challenges and obstacles one may see as a barer to sports participation the Paralympic Games thought elite level competition in competitive sports show case to the world the power and triumph of the human sprit of athletes with physical disabilities.

A dream was born in me as I began my quest to one day compete in the Paralympic Games in Swimming.

I was honored to be one of fifteen athletes to compete in the Junior World IWAS games is Johannesburg South Africa, in April 2007, bringing home 7 Gold metals in individual swimming events and 2 Silver metals in team relay events.

I started my swimming career at the age of 10 months when my Daddy dunked me in the pool at Easter Seals. Over the next few years I swam as therapy and learned to love to swim. I swam in my first competition in the Ohio State University Pool during the Ohio Wheelchair Games in 2001. I have competed in the Ohio Wheelchair Games every year since competing in Swimming, Weightlifting, Track and Field Events earning numerous metals at these games.

During my high school years at Westerville South High School I swam on the high school team lettering three out of four years. I also lettered one year in Weightlifting.

I train with my local team, Buckeye Swim Club, which is an able bodied team. I train on an average of three to four times a week and participate in meets with them to gain as much practice and experience as possible.

Due to the nature of Paralympic sports, the number of competitions specifically for athletes with disabilities in my local area are extremely limited. I must travel nationally to gain more experience and of course I am looking forward to traveling abroad again soon.

To help defray my travel / competition cost my local swim team, Buckeye Swim Club has setup an Athlete Development Fund. Please consider helping by sending tax-deductible donations to;
